Winter Treatments

These products were developed specifically to address cold-weather issues. Fuel Right products include a fuel anti-freeze to protect against fuel line freeze-ups. This means that, unlike most anti-gel additives, Fuel Right winter treatments are designed to deal with all three common cold weather concerns: waxing, gelling and freeze-ups. Because waxing is a genuine problem in diesel equipment, and because this is the harder of the two "Paraffin" problems to treat against, the polymer used in Fuel Right winter treatments is selected to give the best possible anti-waxing (CFPP) performance.

Cold Flow (16 oz)

Cold Flow (16 oz.)

This is a winter treatment for outdoor 275 or 300-gallon fuel tanks. It does not contain the filming amine chemistry that fights sludge, fouling and corrosion but rather contains, in addition to the fuel anti-freeze, a healthy dose of a polymer that lowers pour point and fights waxing. Cold Flow is intended only for use in heating oil and off-road diesel applications, and is not registered with the EPA as an on-road diesel treatment. In addition to the 16-oz. bottle, Cold Flow is available in 55-gallon drums. Also available for order of two bottles as a retail trial pack.

Dosage Recommendations:
One bottle treats a 275 or 300-gallon tank. Cold Flow should be added to the tank just before each winter fill to provide some mixing action. For bulk-treating fuel use at a 1:2000 treat ratio.

Winter Diesel (8 oz.)

Winter Diesel (8 oz.)

This formula combines a bulk treatment dose of basic Fuel Right chemistry to tackle common sludge, fouling and corrosion problems, plus a polymer that lowers pour point and waxing tendencies. Also available as order of a half-case of 12 bottles as a retail trial pack.

Dosage Recommendations:
One bottle gives a bulk treatment dose of Fuel Right for 100 gallons of fuel, plus maximum level treatment for waxing and gelling. This treatment should be used for every fill during the mid-winter months.

Bulk Winter Diesel (half gal.)

Bulk Winter Diesel (half gal.)

This bottle provides the same maximum winter treatment as Winter Diesel, but at a slightly different concentration for an even 1:2000 treat ratio. Also available in 55-gallon drums and bulk containers.

Dosage Recommendations:
One half gallon bottle treats 1000 gallons. Unlike the basic Fuel Right products above, the winter treatments should be added when the fuel is at or above around 40° F and should be thoroughly mixed with the fuel for optimum performance. This treatment should be used for all fuel delivered during the mid-winter months. Cost of treatment can be reduced somewhat by substituting a lesser treatment, such as Winter 4K, during the "shoulder" months immediately before and after the coldest months, and using Bulk Winter Diesel at full strength only during the coldest part of the winter.

Winter 2.8K

Winter 2.8K

This product is a more concentrated version of Bulk Winter Diesel that offers the benefit of reduced treatment costs. It offers the same exact level of treatment and protection as Bulk Winter Diesel above.

Dosage Recommendations:
Available only in 55-gallon drums and larger bulk quantities, one gallon treats 2800 gallons of fuel. The same mixing recommendations apply as for Bulk Winter Diesel.

Winter 3K

Winter 3K

This product is similar to Bulk Winter Diesel except it has a somewhat lesser amount of the paraffin-fighting polymer. This is for use in climates where ambient temperatures generally do not fall below about 0° F. It offers full protection against sludge, fouling, corrosion, metal wear and freeze-ups, but slightly less (roughly 5-10% less) protection against waxing and gelling-at a substantially reduced price. Winter 3K is also a viable option for use in colder climates during the "shoulder" months surrounding the coldest months.

Dosage Recommendations:
Available only in 55-gallon drums and larger bulk containers, one gallon treats 3000 gallons of fuel. Should be used for all fuel during the mid-winter months. The same guidelines for mixing apply as for Bulk Winter Diesel above.

Winter 4K (half gal.)

Winter 4K (half gal.)

This product is a slightly less potent winter treatment, intended for use in milder winter climates (such as eastern states south of Pennsylvania)-again at reduced cost. It still offers full protection against sludge, fouling, corrosion, metal wear and freeze-ups, and protection against waxing and gelling roughly 30-40% less than Bulk Winter Diesel. The same guidelines apply for mixing and timing of use as for Bulk Winter Diesel above. Winter 4K is also an excellent and very cost-effective choice for treatment in northern states and Canada during the "shoulder" months surrounding the coldest months.

Dosage Recommendations:
One bottle treats 2000 gallons of fuel. In bulk quantities one gallon treats 4000 gallons of fuel. Should be used for all fuel during the mid-winter months in moderately cold climates.

Thaw 8-oz.

Thaw 8-oz.

This product is a de-icer and anti-freeze designed to find and melt ice in fuel lines and to prevent freezing of water and deposits in the system. It is a larger dose of the same glycol ether found in all Fuel Right treatments.

Dosage Recommendations:
The very nature of an anti-freeze is that the dose rate depends not on how much fuel is in the system, but rather how much water or ice is present. A general guide is to use one 8-oz bottle in a home heating system or similar size diesel system-more in larger systems. For faster results or unusual situations more Thaw may be added. There is no maximum recommended dose, except that, once the concentration of Thaw in the fuel exceeds perhaps around 10% of the total mix, some reduction in engine or burner performance might be expected, as glycol ether is not as potent a fuel as is #2 distillate.
